O Come Let Us Adore Him!
On First Fridays (the first Friday of each month), Adoration will conclude with a Holy Hour of Prayer starting at 5:00 PM and ending with Evening Prayer and Benediction.
Why First Friday? Having experienced a vision of Our Lord revealing His Sacred Heart to her, St. Margaret Mary of Alacocque (1647 - 1690), a nun of the Order of Visitation, was the first to stress the importance of First Fridays. In the long tradition of the Church, Friday has been regarded as a day of conversion and penance in honor of our Lord's passion and death.
By honoring Our Lord on the First Friday of the month, we make a special effort to unite ourselves to Him and His special redeeming Love. That love gives us special hope and special promise and the Eucharist is a sign of that Hope and Love.
By adoring Christ in the Blessed Sacrament, we are reminding ourselves that Christ once walked among us as a man, and as such, accepted all of our suffering and pain and offered them to God. By adoring Christ in the Blessed Sacrament, we affirm that we are the Body of Christ and Christ asks us to continue His salvific and sacrificial work on behalf of the human family.
It is the Eucharist which builds the Church. It is the Church which is Christ's body. On this First Friday, we recommit ourselves to turning from sin and allowing ourselves to be united with Christ and one another in His mission to the world.
