Shortly before marriage in 1998, we moved to the Plano area from the Midwest to begin our lives as a couple coming from different Christian backgrounds. One of us (Kate) grew up as a cradle Catholic and had a strong connection with the Newman Center in college. Cameron, however, came from a Protestant background and at first was not very interested in being Catholic. Over time Cameron became more comfortable with attending Mass and after much discernment, was confirmed at Seton in 2000. Today, our family of five is very happy to call Seton our parish home and we are very active in parish life.
We have had many wonderful experiences being a part of and contributing to the Seton faith community – RENEW, Stewardship Council, Web site re-design team, Altar serving (kids), children’s choir, event MC / auctioneer, Mothers and Others, Seton’s Ark – but our ministry foundation has always been Music ministry and Faith Formation. Cameron joined the 11:45 choir 5 seconds after completing RCIA and Kate joined shortly thereafter. Eighteen years later, through the 11:45, Youth and festival choirs we share our passion and love of music with the church at mass and various events as a family. Cameron is also blessed to be a part of R.A.Y.N. as the band shares their music and message around the Diocese at carnivals and retreats.
We both feel a strong call to be active in developing the Faith lives of our youth. Both of us have been involved in youth ministry in other church settings in college or after college and so involvement in Faith Formation has been very natural. For many years Cameron was focused on Youth Ministry and Kate on Children’s Ministry. With 2 teens in CREW and 1 teen in 8
th grade, we now are a team teaching middle school and preparing for Confirmation.
There is so much going on today and so much opportunity so we will close with a plug for “Living Your Strengths” as a wonderful place for those seeking God’s call in their lives. Cameron was introduced to LYS back in 2008 and now strives to align both ministry work and his career around his top 5 strengths (Woo, Maximizer, Individualization, Communication, and Activator). It is an amazing way to allow the Holy Spirit to work through you to discover your own unique vocation.
