Children in 2nd thru 5th grade may sing in this choir. No previous training required. Older students take on more leadership in the Children’s Choir, stewarding the little ones and helping with cantor duties. Those in middle school are welcome to stay with the Children’s Choir, but are eligible to join the Youth Choir as well. They can move into the Youth Choir at any time, once they feel ready to make the transition. Members may even participate in BOTH choirs each week. Children in 1st Grade are welcome to join the Children’s Choir if they have an older brother or sister in the choir.
The Children's Choir sings at the Children's Liturgies and several other services that are of interest to children, or otherwise significant during the church year. The schedule includes nine Children's Liturgies during the school year taking place once a month at the Saturday 5:00 pm mass; the service for the Blessing of the Animals in October; Mass on Christmas Eve; an Ash Wednesday prayer service; and the First Eucharist Masses in the spring. The choir takes a break during the summer, but will be invited to join the VBS choir in June.
Choir rehearsals are most WEDNESDAYS after school from 3:30 - 4:25 p.m. in Room 130 at the Faith Formation Center, with a later start time of 4:00 p.m. for those in Middle School. We also have an auxiliary rehearsal on Saturdays at 3:15 p.m. in the Church music room. Cantors (leaders for the Psalm and Gospel Acclamation) require extended rehearsals until 4:30 pm in certain weeks.
In keeping with Diocesan policy, there will be two CLEARED adults present at all times. If you would like to find out more on the Safe Environment program and how to become a cleared adult, click here: Safe Environment Program
