Before we get into the current build, we would like to recognize some individuals and a company that have supported our Habitat ministry.
Jim Parente is moving on to semi-retirement after 10 years leading our Habitat ministry. Jim was there from the beginning of the Habitat ministry at Seton. We have been able to fund and build four Habitat homes and grow the ministry through Jim’s leadership and direction. We want to thank Jim for his many years of service. Co-leading the Habitat Team going forward will be Tracey Holley and Dennis DeMetsenaere.
It takes money and in-kind donations to build a Habitat home. One of the generous companies that contributes in-kind donations is Dynamic Systems. They have donated a combination of labor and materials (heating and air conditioning equipment and plumbing fixtures) to each of our four builds. The donations have been coordinated through Joe Drobycki, a Dynamic Systems’ employee and Seton parishioner. We want to thank Dynamic Systems and Joe for their support of the Habitat effort.
Our current build is a recycle effort (a house bought back from the previous owner and refurbished) and is being funded by three parishes (Seton, St. Mark and Prince of Peace) and Harley Davidson. This house is located in the Douglass Community in East Plano (right behind Home Depot).
On the February 22nd build day, the volunteers worked on a number of different jobs:
• All the holes in the walls were patched, and there were a lot.
• A second coat of primer paint was applied to the walls and ceilings that remained from the previous build day.
• A coat of the final paint color was applied to all the walls and ceilings.
• The two exterior doors were replaced.
• The three front porch posts were replaced.
It was a very productive day and the house is beginning to look like a home, but there is still a ways to go. If you would like to be notified when volunteers are needed, join the Seton Habitat Team, or to learn more about Seton’s Habitat activities go to the Habitat for Humanity section of St. Elizabeth’s website (www.setonparish.org/habitat).
