The Lord sent them “two by two” in sharing the ministry of the Gospel. It is important for us to see ourselves as working together in the common mission of Christ. We cannot do everything by ourselves. We should not try to dominate a ministry that really belongs to God and to His Church. We are called to share together the ministry that Christ has given us.
It is so important not to get in the way of the Lord, but rather to follow the way of the Lord. One antidote to that problem is to work together with others. We need to be prayerful and reflective about our service before God. We need to examine ourselves as servants of God.
We need to know our talents and strengths and use them for the common good, according to the will of God as best we can understand it. Interestingly from the beginning, God made the human race twofold to support and care for one another. It is not surprising that the tribes of Israel were called to support one another. It is not surprising that Moses was counseled by Jethro to seek “wise and honest” men to assist him in the work of directing the people. It is not surprising that the Holy Spirit was poured out upon the Seventy Elders of Israel and upon the Twelve Apostles of Christ. Subsequently, it has been poured out upon many others, even to our own time.
- Why is it important to work together?
- How do we use our talents and our strengths for the common good?
