Barbara Solly was born 1948, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to parents Bernard and Mary (Hopkins) Maguire.
She was one of 6 children. In 1967 she met the love of her life and future husband, Dave. They were married in 1968 and had a daughter, Valerie in 1969. In 1970 the family moved to Georgia and had a son, David in 1971. She was an amazing mother. After living some time in North Carolina, the family moved to Dallas, Texas in 1984 where she spent the rest of her days.
Despite growing up in Philadelphia, Barb was a lifelong Cowboys fan and loved cheering them on. Sundays and Thanksgiving holidays were scheduled around the game time.
Barb held several jobs throughout her lifetime. Most important to her were the jobs, and friends made, at Connor’s Flowers and as a pharmacy technician at Medical City Plano. She made friends wherever she went and truly brought joy to these jobs.
Once she retired, she stayed busy as ever, spending time with friends and family, playing golf with her “Gals” in Golf group, playing cards with her friends and leading the neighborhood book club. She was the life and leader of the party. She loved planning and hosting get-togethers with her friends and family. Barb had a sharp wit and a great sense of humor and absolutely loved to make people laugh.
Her favorite title was Grandma to her 3 grandchildren and “Grandma Barb” to many more. Most recently, she became Gigi to her great granddaughter Emerson, who was the light of her life. She loved with her whole heart and always made the children in her life feel special. She leaves a large hole that will be difficult to fill.

With profound sadness, yet with full hearts, we announce the peaceful passing of Gloria Maria Rivera on October 10, 2022. With the assistance of Hospice Care, family surrounding her, and years of faith and devotion to her Lord and Savior, Gloria was met by her angels and beautifully escorted to the Kingdom of Heaven.
Born in Cali, Colombia, Gloria, in an act of selfless, motherly love, decided to leave behind the life and career she built to seek better safety and opportunity for her two children, Edison and Ivy. Upon arrival to the unfamiliar US, this brave woman went from being a teacher in Colombia to being the hardest worker at Sky Chef Industries. Being the strength and support for her family paid off as one of Sky Chef Industries’ benefits became the vessel in which she was able to explore and travel the world due to her years of dedicated service. She was a committed life-long learner that was rewarded with abundant one-of-a-kind international experiences. That being said, not only was she able to secure a wonderful lasting legacy for her family, she was able to accomplish and live a full life as a wonderful friend, mentor, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Our “Jojo”/“Glorita”/“Jojita”/ “angel”, gave back in so many ways. Each new nickname that arose honorably expresses how her love was truly unique and always plentiful for all of us to embrace. It is indeed a wonderful memento in remembrance of all the lives she touched. Her constant and unconditional love transcended from her hands to all the little things we will remember her for, such as having the honor to dance Cumbia aside her to have her holding our hands in prayer before going to sleep. She had many passions, but she always put family first. Her calling was to be an educator, and she did just that, as she instilled good values in her children and grandchildren that have served them well. She will be dearly missed and forever in our hearts. She is now our angel from above.
A Funeral Mass will be held in her honor Saturday, November 12, 2022 at 2:00 pm in Plano, TX at Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton – 2700 W Spring Creek Pkwy Plano, TX 75023. The Funeral Mass will be live-streamed at the following link: https://youtu.be/j3yrDsCfgv0
In lieu of flowers, you may make a donation in Gloria’s name to the Seton Building fund for the new church.
Karen Ruth (Kotzbach) McCreary made her final trip to her eternal home with God on Friday, October 14,2022. She was born on October 18, 1942, in Cleveland, Ohio to Russell Otto Kotzbach and Marion Collette (Malone) Kotzbach.
Karen was devoted to God and strived to always live for God. A steadfast wife of nearly 59 years and a mother of five who gave her family many beautiful memories. Her children will tell you they grew up eating delicious home cooked meals every day, checked the cookie jar after school for their favorite fresh baked treats and loved to see the strawberry season arrive for the next batch of homemade “Grammy Jammy.” Holidays were made extra special with an elegant meal complete with her best china and crystal. She taught us to always make room at the table for someone who didn’t have a place to celebrate the holidays.
A devoted mother, she was there when a comforting hug or snuggling was needed to calm a child, often with a funny story, to help chase away their fears. Each child was uniquely blessed with her love often expressed in little special moments or things she would share with them. She always encouraged her children to do their best and always loved them dearly, no matter what.
Karen taught herself to sew and loved making children’s clothes, especially for her girls. From pretty toddler dresses and Easter coats to elegant prom gowns, her girls were properly and fashionably dressed. Many at church knew her as the pretty lady in the elegant hat.
Filled with a proper Irish wit, humor and hospitality, Karen’s warm smile befriended everyone she encountered. A silent elevator was always brought to life with her conversation. An avid reader with a keen mind, she would share her knowledge to the delight and edification of anyone around her.
She was a pen pal with friends for over 50 years. Her letters were always handwritten with a real fountain pen on fancy stationery with a matching envelope and a pretty stamp. As her illnesses began to limit what she could do, she chose to write letters to others who were ill, suffering in some way or just to offer a little unexpected humor or encouragement into someone’s life. She looked upon this as her ministry to give something meaningful to others.
When sickness dominated the latter years of her life, and even in a hospital bed, she continued to enrich the lives of those around her, including the staff that cared for her. Karen faced these difficulties with a determination to carry on that amazed many of her doctors. She was a survivor always ready to cheerfully share her wisdom with anyone she met. Only those closest to her knew of the pain and suffering she lived with for many, many years.
In her final weeks, she continued to teach what she proudly proclaimed as God’s pure truth. Life does not need to be complicated. Simply stated, “God is love, God is love, God is love!”
Her wish would be that you allow this love to help you choose kindness with whomever you happen upon, regardless of the situation. One of her final prayers for us is to challenge ourselves to spend time each day growing closer to God and understanding in perfect clarity His amazing promise for us all.
May God grant us the grace and wisdom to see and emulate the gifts God gave her and to thank God for the gift of her presence in our lives.
Karen is survived by her endearing and devoted husband of nearly 59 years, Joseph “Joe” Charles McCreary of Plano, Texas and her sweet chickadees Michele Ann McCreary, Patricia “Tricia” Louise McCreary Gura, Kevin Joseph McCreary and his wife, Kendra (Tillery) McCreary, Peter James McCreary as well as her flock of grandchildren, Meaghan Anne Gura, Brendan Carbury Gura, Reagan Joseph McCreary, Mary Catherine McCreary, Grace Irene McCreary, Shamus Kelley Tillery McCreary, Declan Joseph Tillery McCreary, Caitlin Mai McCreary, Ashlyn Jo McCreary, Colin Matthew McCreary and Nolan Michael McCreary along with many nieces, nephews and close friends. She was preceded in death by her dear son, David Sean McCreary.

John Douglas Moline – born and raised as an only child in La Grange Park, IL and most recently residing in Plano TX – passed away on Oct. 15, 2022. "Pop Pop" - as he was known to the family - was 68 years old.
Friends and colleagues loved and respected him for his quiet empathy, intense curiosity, eye toward aesthetics, quick mind, strong convictions, and ability to support those around him. He had the ability to design, construct and repair anything elaborate with elegance.
Some of his happiest moments were spent hiking and visiting nature in state and national parks. He hiked through Canada for months with his friend Steve Schaffer in his youth. He most recently toured for two years with a travel trailer, his beloved wife of 42 years and their faithful dog, Remington, throughout Texas and surrounding states.
He graduated from Southern Methodist University with a degree in Scenic Design. This informed and guided his love of construction and design. He was particularly fond of Art Deco and almost anything from the 1950s. He had an uncanny ability to restore and repair exotic cars from the 1960s.
Shortly after graduation, he met the love of his life, Suellen Hancock Moline. They eventually had a home built in an open field in the country which grew around them to be the Plano suburb we recognize today. He was an ever-willing handyman to his neighbors in need. They adored those early evenings by the pool as hot air balloons would drift low over the fields and passengers would shout greetings from above.
He worked and retired after 30 years as a postal carrier in The Colony. He supported his community by diligently completing his duty while he also supported and defended his colleagues as the American Postal Workers Union local shop steward.
He was a doting father to his only daughter Margaux Moline of Plano. He kept their world spinning by quietly and respectfully supporting the Plano FFA and cheerleading squads throughout her education in the Plano ISD. He could easily switch gears from designing glitter-coated signs to shoveling pig stalls. He was the kind of dad every girl deserves.
John is survived by his loving wife Suellen Moline; daughter Margaux Moline; grandchildren Waylon Moline and Phoenix Moline; brother-in-law Mark Hancock and sister-in-law Fayrouz Hancock. He was preceded in death by his parents Ruth Brillisour Moline and Lawrence Moline.
There will be a Memorial Mass to celebrate John’s life on Thursday, October 20, 2022 at 4 p.m. at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, 2700 W. Spring Creek Pkwy., Plano TX 75023. The Memorial Mass will be livestreamed at the following link: https://youtu.be/VN7goDZj6jE

Dona Maria (Casey) de Garcia, 66, passed away peacefully at her home in McKinney, TX on Tuesday, August 30, 2022 surrounded by her four children and husband, Baltazar, of 40 years. She is survived by her husband; daughter, Natalie Esparza, three sons; Patrick, James and Gregory, and two grandchildren, Abel and Eli Esparza. Dona was born on July 22, 1956 near Mount Vernon, New York. She was the first of four children to Big Jim and Toots Casey. Dona grew up with her brother, Jimmie, & sisters Patty and Kathy (Wall), becoming the best big sister ever. As Big Jim pursued a sales career, the family moved quite often. The first move was from NYC to Nashville, Tennessee. Big Jim considered the southerly move an opportunity to leave behind all things related to snow, cold & winter. The home on Dundee Lane, sits on a big hill, where Dona & Jimmie’s first Tennessee winter began a long lament of their forgotten sleds - which Big Jim never heard the end of… Then on to Stone Mountain, Georgia where Dona began her long love of animals, with her first dog - a miniature poodle, named Toodles. Three years later, the family journeyed to Houston where Dona, already displaying her work ethic, bought her first VW Bug, emerald green, an accomplishment-since she had not yet learned to drive. The Casey’s arrived in north Dallas & Dona laid down her roots & lived in this area for the rest of her life. She married Baltazar & grew their family, her greatest legacy, with love, patience & humor. It was often heard in Dona’s home “I love you more.” She enjoyed spending time reading, being outdoors, investigating her family genealogy, traveling, gardening, jogging and taking long walks. She loved sharing her home with her pets - most recently, Moose, who would impatiently sit at her feet, staring at her, waiting to be fed… again. The holiday seasons, most of all, Thanksgiving and Christmas, is where Dona shined the brightest. She always prepared magnificent feasts, playing Christmas in Harlem on repeat along with all the holiday music you could listen to, beautifully decorating her home to fit each occasion - anyone that visited felt welcomed and loved. And if you were lucky enough to be seated at that long holiday table among family, the laughter is what you’ll remember & return for year after year. Dona worked hard her entire life-she began as a waitress at The Chimney restaurant where she made lifelong friends. Upon starting her family, she held various positions at grocery stores, Southwest Airlines, school districts, and Bank of America – where she was adored. She ended her career after running her own business, Copper Star, before retiring in 2021.
During her bout with cancer, she created a word that helped her fight through the adversity she faced day to day - bazhinka (buh-zhink-uh). Anytime a hurdle came about, Dona would say bazhinka and power through it! Dona was one of a kind & we are all better for having known her - she will be sorely missed by us all. A Funeral Mass will be held in her honor Saturday, October 1, 2022 at 11:00 am in Plano, TX at Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton – 2700 W Spring Creek Pkwy Plano, TX 75023. Carrie Elizabeth Vega was born August 2, 1983, in Plano, Texas.
Carrie had a smile that could literally light up any room she was in, and she showed instant love to everyone she met.
She loved her family, friends, sports, crime shows, “comfy” clothes, getting dressed up, camping, cooking, her fur babies, NOLA, ghost tours, traveling, and loved watching softball.
She had a way of impacting your life in some way and once you met her you just knew you had to be her friend. She was loving, caring, giving, inspiring, goofy, beautiful, smart and most of all spiritual. She had a way of uplifting your spirits when you needed it the most. She was talented in the arts and loved to show off her creations or talents. It could be in the form of a wreath she made, or a shirt, a mug, a painting, a diamond painting or if you were lucky enough to hear – sing a song or play the piano.
Carrie was always ready to give even if it meant it was a sacrifice she would have to make. She would give you what you needed and worry about herself later. She gave of herself above all else, that was her purpose.
Carrie was diagnosed in October 2018 after 2 tragic months prior and through this she still smiled and moved on in life with positivity and a zest for life. She was not going to ever let the diagnosis define her. She was going to beat the disease and not let the disease beat her. She was bound and determined to live life to its fullest and in making this decision she heard God and understood what he was tasking her with.
She knew that she had a purpose and above all else she was going to do God’s will. She began blogging and created a Facebook page dedicated to her journey. She wrote her blog and updated her page as a way to clear her mind and soul, it was therapeutic. In no way did she ever think she would gain a following and have people asking for new blogs or updates. Her stories were passed along and shared and touched so many lives and gave others perspective, grace, understanding and purpose for whatever was going on in their lives. Carrie was a living testament of Gods work and what could be accomplished if we all were to just stop and listen and accept this God’s guidance.
Carrie would always say, “Thy will be done” and she had many opportunities to be upset with him… but that never happened. She was everything… She was light… She was PURPOSE.

James Michael Zak, better known as “Mike”, Chief Zak, Dad, and Grandpa, passed away on Tuesday, March 15, 2022. He was born and raised in Dallas, Texas and is preceded in death by his parents Walter Bernard Zak and Vada Marie Zak. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Gayle Zak; his daughter, Sheila Courtney and husband, Michael; his son, Lewis Zak and wife, Jamie; his sister, Beverly Barnes; his brother, Mark Zak and wife, Donna; his sister, Annette McCurdy and husband, Mark; his brother, Walter Zak and wife, Nancy; his grandson, Aiden Zak; Brother-in-law Glen Maxwell, six nieces, and numerous cousins, great nieces and great nephews. Mike graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in 1969 and when Gayle came to TJ in the spring of that year, he was love struck the first time he saw her. He was tired of school by then, but he looked forward to 4th period Study Hall, because Gayle was there. Mike was shy and was scared to ask her out. Summer came and went and in September of 1969, Gayle put in an application at the Safeway Store where Mike worked. The store manager asked Mike to pick out some of the job applications because they needed to hire more checkers. Gayle was hired and reported to Mike on her first day at Safeway. Near the end of her shift, Mike asked Gayle if she could work on Friday night and asked You don’t have a date, do you? She said no, she could work. An hour later, Mike came up to Gayle and asked if she wanted to go to Pizza Inn after work on Friday. What was she to say? Gayle had already told Mike, that she didn’t have a date that night. That’s where their love story began.
Mike and Gayle were married on July 11, 1971 and they liked to toast their anniversary with a Slurpee from 7 Eleven. They were married by the Fire Department Chaplain at the Walnut Hill United Methodist Church in Dallas. Mike and Gayle lived in Garland, Texas for 25 years, where they raised their two children, Sheila and Lewis. Mike joined Indian Princess with his daughter and Indian Guides with his son. He was very proud of both of his children and loved them dearly. Having been raised Catholic, Mike made the decision that he wanted to return to the Catholic Church, so on their thirtieth wedding anniversary, Mike and Gayle were married at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church in Plano with their two children present. Mike volunteered with Stephen Ministry and served as a sponsor with RCIA. He also started a program at the church, called Catholics, Once and Again, for people like himself who wanted to return to the Catholic Church. He was a very devout Catholic, a loving father and dear husband.
Mike wanted to be a fireman when he was younger and he applied as soon as he was old enough. He was turned down the first time, because he didn’t meet the 150-pound weight minimum. That didn’t stop him, he applied again to the Dallas Fire Department and he finally made the cut at 151 pounds. In January 1971, he started with what is now called Dallas Fire-Rescue, but due to a health issue, he almost lost his job while in Rookie School. Luckily, that didn’t happen and his career took off. He was eager to be the best he could be in his job, always studying for the next promotion and he volunteered to be one of the first EMTs and Paramedics when the ambulances started up in Dallas. He quickly moved through the ranks, working as a Captain at 6’s where he was referred to as “Captain Tidy”. He eventually landed at 1’s as a Deputy Chief, where he stayed for most of the remainder of his Dallas Fire-Rescue career.
He was a leader and a stickler for rules, while endeavoring to be fair. In his 38-year career with Dallas Fire-Rescue, he was well-respected and blessed by the camaraderie of so many who brought great happiness into his life. Dallas Fire-Rescue was Mike’s second family and he was a very proud father when his son Lewis joined the department.
In lieu of flowers, the family would ask that you make a donation in Mike’s name to one of the following organizations or a charity of your choice. They had four daughters, Karen, Barbara, JoAnne (Jody) and Peggi. She spent her life raising her kids and helping her husband in the various businesses he owned. She was a very kind person who always saw the goodness in everyone. Her sister, Sammy, was also a big part of her life. They enjoyed shopping, dining out and going to the casino. They shared many special family moments together as their kids were growing up and as they became older. When her husband became ill, she moved with him to Dallas, Texas to be with her daughters. She loved living in a warm climate and being close to her daughters and grandchildren. She always said moving to Texas was one of the best decisions they ever made. One of her many pleasures, was knitting and she made many blankets and scarves. She also never missed a chance to go to the casino and play the slots. She had her favorite machines and got lucky enough to make the trips eventful.
Millie led a very full life, spending lots of time with her 7 grandchildren. She spent time with them as young kids, going to the park, swimming pool, watching them in their school activities including soccer games, dance, cheer competitions, speech and debate, choir, and all the other extracurricular activities they were involved in. She saw all her grandkids grow up and always said she never thought she would live long enough to see her kids become senior citizens. She also loved music, at times writing her own songs. In her younger years, she played the accordion. She enjoyed watching the Voice because she loved all the talented singers. She never missed an episode of the soap opera, “The Bold and The Beautiful”. She watched this show for many decades and would become engrossed in the storyline. As she got older, her daughters took her on cruises, Las Vegas and many trips to Windstar and Choctaw casinos in Oklahoma to celebrate her birthdays. She loved these trips and had so much fun experiencing new places and things. She was always ecstatic when all her girls were with her. Mary and Steve Moughalian were married for 65 years, when Mary quietly entered the Kingdom of Heaven on February 5. Steve was not far behind her. He left this world 24 hours and 20 minutes after Mary. No one who knew Mary & Steve were surprised. They lived a love story, often sitting & holding hands. Mary Therese McNulty was born in Pittsburgh, PA on June 17, 1936, the eldest daughter of 6. She is survived by her sister, Margaret “Peggy” Rozanski and brother Bill McNulty. Mary was a star basketball player and she continued to play the sport in the Navy.Steve Moughalian was born October 20, 1936, in Boston, MA. He was the middle child of 5 boys. Steve is survived by his brothers Alfred and Raymond. Mary and Steve met in the Navy. Mary sat in front of him and told stories of how he would try to get answers to test questions out of her. Steve made her laugh. They were stationed in Virginia, and one time Steve borrowed a friend's car to take her home to Pittsburgh. She had no idea he didn't know how to drive! They were married at Saint Mary's of the Mount in Pittsburgh on July 21st, 1956. At that time they were stationed in California, where Mary had their first of five children. Mary and Steve moved back to Pittsburgh following their honorable discharges from the Navy. Steve worked and went to night school, graduating with a degree in accounting. The family moved to the Cleveland area in the summer of 1969. Mary eventually earned her cosmetology license. Steve built Mary a beauty salon in the basement of their home and she made extra money doing hair. Mary became an RN in 1975, which was no small feat as Steve traveled extensively for work and Mary was busy raising five kids. Mary joined the Army Reserves after obtaining her nursing degree. She had a long and distinguished career. In March of 1978 Steve went to Dallas on a business trip, which turned out to be life changing for the Moughalian family. That March day was a Chamber of Commerce day - blue skies and 70 degrees. Steve called Mary and said we're moving to Texas! The family moved to Plano in August of 1978 and Mary stayed behind to sell the house. They put a pool in which Steve aptly named after the Eagles’ song, The Last Resort, and the rest is history! Many amazing memories were made at 6404 Apache Court. They were lifetime Catholics and attended St. Elizabeth Seton since 1978.Steve and Mary loved traveling and were extremely fond of playing slots. It is impossible to put to paper the accomplishments of these two wonderful people. They opened their hearts and home to so many over the years. Mary and Steve’s legacy will live on in the hearts and minds of their children, grandchildren, friends and people whose lives were touched by them. They loved music, family, God and adored each other. Daily they toasted each other with “love you babe”, followed by a kiss.
They are survived by their children: Steve Moughalian, Regina Mitchell, Susan Lepkowski, Maureen Moughalian and Connie Moughalian Garofalo; grandchildren: Sarah Britelle, Adele Angel, Matthew Moughalian, Steven Moughalian, Anna Moughalian, Angela Brown, Michelle Mitchell-Lutz, Nikki Chavira, Ryan Thompson, Adam Thompson and Katie Lepkowski; and 18 great grandchildren.
