Deacon Mike Picard was ordained a permanent deacon on June 10, 2000. He was initially assigned to St. Elizabeth Ann Seton in Plano where he served six months. He and his wife, Betty, did much of the planning and background work to form Our Lady of Angels parish, then known as “New Plano Parish.” He served at Our Lady of Angels since they celebrated their first Masses on December 3, 2000.
Deacon Mike worked for the Defense Contract Audit Agency for 33 years and retired in 2012. After he retired, he served as the Director of Diaconate Formation for the Diocese of Dallas until August 2019. Deacon Mike and Betty were involved in deacon formation for over 12½ years. They were mentor couples for the 2013 class.
At Our Lady of Angels Deacon Mike was involved with their RCIA process since its inception in 2003 teaching many sessions. He was their RCIA director for six years from 2013 to 2019. Deacon Mike has a passion for Scripture, liturgy, and social justice. He is a Global Fellow with Catholic Relief Services.
Deacon Mike and Betty have been married 43 years. They have four grown children and two grandchildren. They are originally from San Diego, California and spent seven years in Memphis, Tennessee. They have been in Plano since 1993. They enjoy traveling and have made it to all fifty states and are trying to visit all 50 state capitals. They are currently at 43. Deacon Mike also loves to run and is active in the Plano Pacers running club.
